Five years gone, I’m still here: Blogging

It’s almost five years when I started blogging (after few attempts here and there). And surprisingly I’m still doing it.

The main reason it’s a surprise is, I don’t normally do things for so long. However, blogging has always evolved along the time. I don’t no more blog regularly, but this has been a private space for me to vent out boiling thoughts. Twitter is for public, Facebook is for friends, + is still in the making and this blog is just for me.

I have written a whole range of different posts from my personal life to professional life. However, I’m again surprised with the amount of hits I receive for some of my occasional Tech Notes. It’s only because these post fill in the gap and thanks to Google, it helps someone out there. I have also stopped all types of monetizing from this blog from last year. I don’t think I’ll bring back any ads anytime soon.

There is nothing more to say in this blog, so just checkout my latest vlog.

Access to Clean Water – A Human Right

Nearly 1 billion people lack access to clean water, which causes a series of problems, diseases and even death.

Blog Action Day 2010: Water from Blog Action Day on Vimeo.

In July 2010, the United Nations declared access to clean water and sanitation a human right over objection from the United States. Today, nearly one billion people lack basic access to safe drinking water.

While the developing world faces a water crisis, those in industrialized countries consume far more than their fair share. The disregard for water resources in industrialized countries impacts more than humans – it causes environmental devastation. The good news is that there are great organizations working on solutions and new tools that empower people to do their part to address the water crisis. Check out and charity: water for more.

Access to clean water is not just a human rights issue. It’s an environmental issue. An animal welfare issue. A sustainability issue. Water is a global issue, and it affects all of us.

Now Powered by WordPress

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post.

– Not exactly, add another 127 and this would be my 128th.

I have moved, migrated this blog from Blogger to a hosted WordPress. Those who are following me through feeds might not have noticed this yet, so just click on your feed and check out whats new. I have been blogging since 2006, and completed 3 years this July. I enjoyed blogging over at Blogger, yet I always wanted to move to WordPress someday with my own domain. I’ve been actively blogging on my project blog last year, which was on WordPress. After buying this domain couple of months back, I decided I would move my blog here.

Lets see a ‘list’ related to this migration:

  • Domain –, bought couple of months back, couldn’t wait more for .com or .net
  • Hosting – DreamHost, hosting with them for almost 2 years and happy with what I’ve been getting
  • WordPress – 🙂
  • Theme – Illacrimo Theme by Design Disease
  • Migration – Migration from Blogger to WordPress is pain, many thanks to Amit Agarwal at Digital Inspiration for this wonderful guide

I also made a decision to change the name of this blog from “The TalkOut Trojans!” to “Nimal’s Weblog”, which I think would be a more suitable name. Its most likely, I’d stick to the “TalkOut” avatar name on all other places, except to this domain.

The migration is so far smooth, and I’ll be tweaking around the theme and plug-ins for sometime. Let me know if you find any glitches on any pages, so I can fix them. I’ll also be WRITING more often than before (that’s the plan for now)…. 🙂

Quoting from my first post,

Now I’ve landed in blogger. We’ll see what happens in the future.

So, Now I’ve landed in WordPress, and the future, it’s yet to be seen…!

Its 3 years… I’m still here… :)

“Now I’ve landed in blogger. We’ll see what happens in the future.”

This is what I wrote exactly 3 years back, when I started this blog. And its surprising even to me, I’m still hanging around this blog. Though I haven’t been writing often or interesting in this, there were few posts in the total of 120+ posts, that would have benefited someone. Also thanks to the friends who have linked back to this blog, and for the few comments to some of the posts.

For the 4th year, I have nothing special, it will be as normal as before…!

My blog, I’m learning…

A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of website where entries are made (such as in a journal or diary), displayed in a reverse chronological order. Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual although many focus on photographs, videos or audio. The word blog can also be used as a verb, meaning adding an entry to a blog.

This is what Wikipedia says.

Everyone is having blogs thesedays, and I wanted to have one too. My first stop was WordPress, BlogSome (which used WordPress), where I had my first blog . Even though I had a lot in my mind to write about, I had no time to put them in words, or rather I was ‘lazy‘. Thus that blog had only a few posts (less than 10). Later on the timeline I heard about Yahoo! 360º, via a promotion mail from Yahoo!. I always try any service on the internet, specially if it is from Yahoo! or Google. So I started my second blog on Y! 360º, which  unfortunately still has one post, which was posted on the last Valentine’s Day. But still I am far away from the blogging world.

Now I’ve landed in blogger. We’ll see what happens in the future.
